ABOUT:

Hello,

My name is Keith, and I reside in Florida with my wife and three grown children. I am an Automation Engineer for a cement manufacturing plant, where I get to play with many different types of electrical equipment. I have many years of experience in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work and have been known to take a computer down to its individual parts. Now, if only I could put them all back together. I am studying so that I can keep up with the changes in the cybersecurity guidelines that are being implemented at work. It is interesting to see the security features from the IT side being tried on the OT side, and sometimes, I feel caught in the middle.

My goal is to be able to pass along tips and tricks that I learn about network management, architecture, and security. Much of this is being passed on to me, and we must find a way to make it work. Come along with me on a journey of discovery, triumph, and gnashing of teeth.

Network management comes as we slowly convert the plant from ControlNet to Ethernet and struggle to find a way to include and upgrade the processes and equipment. Starting with adding over 200 power meters to the system. Continuing with 7 major Programable Logic Controllers [PLC] switching from distributed I/O over ControlNet to Ethernet modules and continuing to upgrade the plant as technology becomes available.
